Music AT MAGPIE

Thank you for your interest in supporting live music in Red Lodge, Montana!

As a new bar/venue space, we are looking to really amplify the art scene in our small town.
We cannot do this without your support so thank you for contributing through purchasing a ticket!
We have two venue spaces, the main bar and the ballroom.
We have “reserved seats” in each space. These cost more as they are limited and guarantee you a good spot for the show.
All other tickets are “general admission” which means bar stools while they last and of course standing room.

Want to Play at Magpie?

We absolutely love to host music and we get a lot of requests, so please be as detailed as possible!

THE TWO TRACKS
Americana from Sheridan, WY.

Julie’s driving rhythm guitar, on-stage enthusiasm and vocal prowess dance perfectly with Dave's rich voice and unique cello playing, adding a layer of surprise to the band’s sound. This is complemented wonderfully by the four part harmonies, and rock solid groove filled out by Taylor Phillps on bass and Fernando Serna on drums. All seasoned musicians and good friends, they have knit their passions into a tight band family, and it comes across in their albums and on stage. Their latest Cheers to Solitude, was one of the last records made at The Butcher Shoppe in Nashville with Grammy winning engineer Sean Sullivan (Sturgill Simpson, Travelin’ McCourys), and was produced by Will Kimbrough (Todd Snider, Rodney Crowell) and mixed by Grammy winner Trina Shoemaker (Tanya Tucker, Sheryl Crow), spending several weeks on the Top 40 Americana Radio Chart, and the Top 10 Alt-Country Specialty Chart.

HALLOWEEN Costume Party

Halloween Party- generally speaking with our events, Magpie is taking a risk, with this event, it was on the decorator and bands, since the ticket sales were going to them. Given that on Wednesday we had only sold 8 tickets, we decided to pause the event as planned. Mike and I are super bummed, but we hope that next year we can have some pre-sales that dictate a big bash! :)

The decor will still be set up somewhere. We hope to have music and still a contest, but probably will be shifting days and/or if there are tickets or just hopefully some folks visiting on Hallow’s Eve.

MAITA

MAITA

There are few things as chilling as attempting to parse the emotional tone of the punctuation in a text message from a partner--a period, a single dot that at once can mean so much. On her latest album with MAITA, Maria Maita-Keppeler digs into that crippling oxymoron of modernity, the constant bombardment of communication paired with utter disconnection. Due February 18th via venerable indie label Kill Rock Stars, I Just Want To Be Wild For You grasps passionately for a world that too often seems at a gauzy distance.
Splitting time between her mom’s Japanese-speaking home and her father’s English-speaking home, Maita-Keppeler found an expressive avenue out of her childhood shyness through music. The Portland-based singer-songwriter tapped into that grand yet intimate reverence for MAITA’s sophomore album, from the churning twinkle of “Pastel Concrete” to the riotous give-and-take of “Honey, Have I Lost It All?”. In those moments of disconnect, of confusion, of isolation, I Just Want To Be Wild For You thunders ahead, forging unexpected connections along the way.

———————————————————————

“an intimate, possibly somber guitar strummer in the opening lines grows into a jaunty tune that grows and eventually cathartically erupts.” - KEXP “Song Of The Day”

“moody voice and storytelling style [...] a clear-eyed look at growing up and holding yourself responsible for actively creating the life you want to live.” - NPR

“ ...that rarified class of artists with the ability to enthrall the listener right from the jump.” - SPIN

“ ...her lyrics are the shrapnel that linger long after the blasts of power pop and misty-eyed folk laments have come to an end” - The Line Of Best Fit

"One of the most impressive and shining acts to come out of Portland in quite some time"- Portland Mercury

The Montavales

Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson of The Montvales cut their teeth busking on the streets of their hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee and playing short sets on various programs of their local Americana radio station, WDVX. Currently located in Cincinnati, Ohio, they spend their days crafting stripped down, banjo-and-harmony driven songs that strike just the right balance between catchy and lonesome.  Their shows will take you to places both raucous and reverent, equal parts honky tonk mischief and earnest meditation on friendship, heartbreak, and place.  Their debut album, Heartbreak Summer Camp, and most recent single, Bad Faith, are available for streaming everywhere now.

The Sweet Lilies (Ballroom)

The Sweet Lillies' music is, first and foremost, heartfelt and collaborative.

Those defining traits are given life by the trio of musicians making up The Sweet Lillies - Julie Gussaroff, Becca Bisque, and Dustin Rohleder - who have combined their individual strengths together to deliver powerful narratives of life in song.

With their acoustic string-band lineup of guitar, viola, and upright bass given flight by ethereal, vocal harmonies that float like a dream, the Sweet Lillies' music has an old-time soul with a forward-looking eye.

Red Elvises (Ballroom)

RED ELVISES (ballroom)

Igor Yuzov was born in Germany, raised in Ukraine and studied in Russia. He grew up in the former Soviet Union, where folk music was the norm and rock’n’roll was illegal. A rebellious streak, led him to seek out the forbidden music. As soon as it became possible, Igor left Russia for America with his “Folk’n’Roll” band Limpopo, and was personally greeted by Ronald Reagan. In 1993, Limpopo won Ed McMahon’s Star Search and their popularity began to blossom. In 1995, Igor dreamed that Elvis Presley came to him and told him to start playing rock’n’roll. Igor and his Russian friends became Red Elvises and gave street performances on Santa Monica’s 3rd Street Promenade. As their crowds grew larger, the City of Santa Monica ordered them to discontinue their street performances. Evolving over the years, Igor’s music has been labeled “Siberian Surf Rock” which contains humorous lyrics and grooves that forces his audience to dance. Over the past 20 years, Red Elvises have constantly toured all over the world with occasional breaks to record new music and to participate in film and television projects.

The Last Revel (Ballroom)

After a 5 year hiatus, The original trio has reunited to produce new music with a revitalized appreciation for camaraderie and creativity. Now living in three different cities across the US, these three independently talented singer-songwriters bring together the sounds of Nashville TN, Minneapolis MN, & Bozeman MT to create Front Porch Americana soundscapes that are equally original as they are timeless. Drawing influence from their salt of the earth Midwest ethos the band’s songs so naturally blend the genres of Folk, Old Time String-Band and Indie Rock to create a sound that echoes the current heartbeat of America.

The Last Revel utilizes their multi-instrumental abilities to bring the full spectrum of modern Americana to life with lush arrangements of three-part vocal harmonies, acoustic and electric guitars, upright bass, fiddle, and 5-string banjo to consistently support impassioned performances of their honest and heartfelt songwriting.

They feature the fastest banjo picker in the west and four-part bass harmonies that you can hear from Plentywood to Wisdom. Dance if you feel the urge, just remember, they ain’t no boy band.
